Mission trip to Rancho Genesis, Mexico
Metolius Friends has been going on the mission trip to Rancho Genesis in Mexico since 2015. Our church has gone 3 times, since we go every other year. My daughter, Ashlyn actually spear headed the very first trip when she came to me and our youth pastor at the time and said I want to go on a mission trip. With the help of our pastor we found out that Sherwood Friends had been taking this trip and I contacted them and asked if we could join them. They said yes and the rest is history. Our original contacts at the camp were Amy Miller and Greg Amstutz. Greg and his wife Patti are the founders of Rancho Genesis.
This is the first year my husband, Scott has been able to go. He says he chose to go this year partly because he has seen his children or I go the last few years and wanted to be a part of it with us. Also, he knows that life is short and it’s important to impact as many people as we can while we are here. I believe that God made it possible for me to go on this trip to quiet me and get us away from the busyness of our comfortable life. It allowed us to get away from ourselves and reestablish a connection with Him by helping and serving others.
Raeanne, a 20 year old college student that joined us for the first time this year said. “I chose to go because I had been wanting to go on a mission trip since my freshman year in high school and this was the perfect opportunity. Also, as a college student, most people my age spend their spring break partying and being wild and I would’ve much rather spent it helping others and giving my time for people who deserve it, as well as re connecting with God and working on my relationship with Him. At my age there are a lot of factors that pull you in the opposite direction and this trip helped me get back and going in the right direction. I feel like everything happens for a reason and this trip opened my eyes to the reality of the world. God has blessed my life and I’m so beyond thankful for everything in my life. Also, I’m never taking running water for granted again! God has shown me the true value of love and real friendship. Seeing how big of an impact we made on those kids means the world to me and I’ll never forget this trip!”
