Youth Yearly Meeting

July 22-26, 2018

Yearly Meeting. Youth Yearly Meeting (YYM) is designed as a leadership training conference for students involved in the Friends Church. Our focus is to learn about and experience Quaker business, listening as a community to Jesus Christ, and participate with the adult Yearly Meeting. The students will meet to worship and practice Quaker business under the leadership of their peers, who fill the roles of YYM officers, and with the guidance of encouraging adults. A service project and a trip to Tilikum where students will be using the challenge course to learn about discernment in Quaker business meetings and in real life will work together to create a well-rounded growth and leadership experience.

We invite all interested youth to attend and encourage churches to seriously consider sending at least one middle school and one senior high student.

In an effort to enhance community and streamline youth programming, Youth Yearly Meeting registration fee includes onsite lodging, all meals (Sunday dinner-Thursday breakfast), beach day and the regular program fee. A key part of the work done together by the youth is greatly enhanced with full and regular participation for the entire week.

You can check in on Sunday, 1-3 p.m. in the foyer of Bauman. Responsibility for students begins with YYM programming at 3:15 p.m. Sunday in Lemmons 8.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (Entering grades 6-8 based on the 2018-2019 school year) have the opportunity to attend QUEST at Camp Tilikum as part of Youth Yearly Meeting.   These students will ride out to Tilikum and return to George Fox on the bus with the Day Campers.  They will participate in Youth Yearly Meeting with the high school students for all of the evening activities and will stay in the dooms with Youth Yearly Meeting counselors.  Because QUEST goes through Friday, please communicate with the Yearly Meeting office if you would like to stay through Friday in campus housing, so your student can finish out the week at Tilikum, even though Yearly Meeting Annual Sessions conclude Thursday morning.

Registration information:  It is necessary to register for Camp Tilikum as well as Youth Yearly Meeting.  In order to register for Tilikum, please contact Aly Brooks, the Tilikum Coordinator for the yearly meeting at tilikumcoordinator@nwfriends.org.  Space is very limited, please register promptly.  To complete the second half of the process and register for Youth Yearly Meeting, please follow this link (registration will be available by June 1st, 2018).

Price: $200 which is paid directly to Tilikum in the registration process.

HIGH SCHOOL (Entering grades 9-12 based on the 2018-2019 school year AND 2018 graduates)

Registration information: Students must complete the Youth Yearly Meeting registration form (coming by June 1st, 2018) and have a signed parental release and a signed Tilikum Participant Agreement. Please download it from the online registration and follow instructions at the bottom to return it to complete the registration process.

Price: $ 200, which covers all housing, meals, and activities for the entire week.

Historically the price of Youth Yearly Meeting has been heavily subsidized.  In order to cover more costs associated with programming, the price has been raised.  This is still a subsidized price but is closer to the true cost of Youth Yearly Meeting programming.
