Below you will find a list of all our workshops, and a brief description of what each will cover. For a daily schedule of the workshops, including room numbers, please click on the below image. The numbers for each workshop below correspond to those in the daily schedule.

7 — Women in Ministry: Why?Lynn Holt & Cherice Bock  Many people say it’s important to have women in ministry and leadership in our yearly meeting, and yet we don’t often talk about why this is important. Lynn, Darla Samuelson and other women from NWYM will host a discussion.

8 — Friends Women: Teaching AbroadBettyLou Sargent  In addition to meeting each day for business, come hear from: Monday – Teaching Abroad; Tuesday – David & Debby Thomas; Wednesday – Johan & Judy Maurer.

9 — From Camp to Campus: Youth Leadership Initiatives in NWYMJamie Johnson & Joseph Thouvenel  How is NWYM challenging youth to discover and practice leadership? Learn how Twin Rocks and GFU are building tomorrow’s leaders.

11 — The Riddles of John: The Quaker GospelPaul Anderson  Hear how author Paul Anderson addresses the theories, riddles, and interpretations of the Gospel of John–and learn how this Gospel reveals the Present Christ who seeks to lead the community of faith.

12 — Peace with Justice Challenges in MissionsNick Block  Increasing the awareness of Friends re: issues of global peace and justice in the experience of our workers in Russia, Rwanda, Latin America, and Morocco.

13 — Peace Month: How-ToCherice Bock & the Peace Education Subcommittee  Learn about Peace Month 2012: Friends Testimonies! Share joys and challenges of previous years and brainstorm with other participants about how to structure Peace Month 2012 in your church/meeting. Subcommittee members will showcase available resources and field your questions.

14 — The 24/7 Church: Setting Up & Maintaining a Basic Web Presence Alan Akins  30 minutes and $30/year is all your church needs to establish and maintain a Web and social-media presence that informs, educates, challenges, and connects your community.

15 — The Double Rainbow Effect: What Does it Mean to be Quaker?Jamie Johnson  Are Quakers like double rainbows? Let’s join our youth and the YouTube guy, and ask the question: What does it mean to be Quaker? This will be a two-part workshop.

16 — North AfricaShawn McConaughey  Interested in the plans for the future of NWYM in N. Africa? Join members of the N. Africa leadership team as they describe future steps and answer your questions. Designed for anyone interested in serving in N. Africa and/or wants to support this exciting ministry.

17 — Get Acquainted with our Superintendent RecommendationBecky Ankeny & Colin Saxton  Everyone is invited to meet with Becky Ankeny, the Administrative Council’s recommendation for NWYM’s next superintendent.

18 — Living More SimplyKaren Oberst  Many people would like to live more simply. Join us for practical tips on how to simplify your life and make your resources stretch.

19 — Going IntergenerationalJim Teeters  Learn ways your church can incorporate intergenerational programming to build community and spiritual growth.

20 — Latino Ministries & ImmigrationAngel Diaz  Change strategies in the Latino ministries and the effects of immigration events in the Northwest. Dispel myths about immigration.

21 — The 24/7 Church: Facebook, Twitter, E-mailEric Muhr  Re-envisioning social media as ministry tools: Simple steps for creating and maintaining online communities.

22 — Ministry Priorities: The Top 5 Biggest ExposuresBen Laro & Jim Reed  Join us to discuss the top issues that jeopardize a ministry’s success: Transportation, volunteers, youth, contingency planning, employee handbooks. Great takeaway information available.

24 — Friends Committee on National LegislationMike Huber  Since 1943, FCNL has been a voice for peace, equality, simplicity, and truth within our nation’s capital. Learn more about this great Quaker organization.

25 — Congo Peace ConferenceShawn McConaughey  Hear highlights of a conference on peace and justice sponsored by Congo Yearly Meeting.  Congo has one of the most violent histories of any country in Central Africa. A team from NWYM went in early July as presenters and encouragers for the conference.

26 — Financial Planning: How & When to Make Decisions About Long-term Care Elizabeth Comfort  It may not be too early to start thinking about retirement planning and long-term care options. Get information about when to start planning, and how to compare and make choices.

27 — Community GardeningCorey Beals  Find out how to start a community garden, and the impact it can have on your community.

28 — PRODOLAHal & Nancy Thomas  Hal and Nancy Thomas will give an update on how PRODOLA is equipping Christian leaders in Latin America to integrate theology, church, and the social context.
