I mowed my neighbor’s yard before I mowed my own. In the interest of honesty, I should say that we both have small yards; the whole operation took thirty-five minutes. And I should add that this act of random kindness is something I thought about for 2 months before I followed through.
Dave and his family moved to new home in June and have been unable to sell their home since then. Almost everyone on my block has been hurt by the tough housing market in some way.
Since Dave moved away, the grass at his place has grown, and was then replaced with weeds. The beautiful landscaping has turned brown and brittle, because of hot weather and inattention.
So I mowed the lawn next door. Why? Well, I could say that I hope it makes it easier for him to sell the house. I hope the rest of my neighbors take greater pride in our neighborhood. But the real reason I mowed the lawn is I felt the Spirit nudging me to do so. So far, no one’s noticed.
Well, no one has noticed except the One who nudged.
