Hungry People
They are on the sidewalks near super stores and fast food restaurants. No matter how hot or cold out, someone is there. Usually different people each time we drive by. I like that our local rescue mission offers meal vouchers for us to hand out and let them know that there is meal available just down the road from where they stand.
Sometimes, though, handing out the voucher isn’t enough. Sometimes, Jesus leads us to sacrifice. Sometimes, when we have just been to the sub shop and have all ordered $5 foot long sandwiches, one of us decides that 6” is enough and wants to give the other half to the person asking for food. I truly believe the Lord knows who we are to give to, and we are obedient when he asks us to be the one to give.
I can only speak for me and not my entire family, but I would say we obey when we slow down enough to really listen. The poor and hungry were numerous in Jesus’ time and there are still far too many hungry, starving people today. Jesus showed us by example how we are to act and I believe our call to help and do our part is still relevant.
