Silverton Friends Church (SFC) mission statement is, “Loving God… Loving Others”. We have sponsored Silverton Christian School for 32 years. In the past year the waiting list for new students grew, and it was agreed that there is a need for expansion. It began with discussions, detailed research, and planning, followed by a large demolition project. In planning for the construction process there were several scheduling challenges. With students on site, and limited classrooms, the church family found opportunities to step outside their comfort zone, and even outside our own church building in efforts to continue weekday ministries.
SFC has several community focused ministries. These include SCS, MOPS, Glory Bee, and Tuesday Morning Bible Study. With current scheduling challenges, the Bible Study group needed to relocate for a few months.
For several months I have met for tea with a group of women. I met them through a coworker who hosts approximately 20 of us in her home. They are delightful women, joyfully sharing Christ’s love. One is the aunt of a pastor in our church, another just started as an employee in my office. Many of them worship at Silver Creek Fellowship.
The SFC Tuesday Bible Study is now meeting at Silver Creek Fellowship in space they kindly offered, and have begun studying the book 1000 Gifts. Sometimes community is where or how we focus outreach. Sometimes community is how others reach out to us. I am thankful for our community, including Silver Creek Fellowship.
