In open worship on the Sunday after the tragedy in Connecticut, a woman who is a secretary at one of our local public elementary schools stood to speak. She said she had read a lot in response to the shootings, and there was only one she strongly disagreed with—the one that said this happened because God was kept out of schools. She then listed all the people (teachers, students, parents, staff) in whom she saw Christ at work every single day. Beautifully, she reminded me of how many people are in our schools every day, serving Christ and working for peace, justice, and love.
