Have you ever been in a group of people from very different background who are unified under one cause? I have recently had the privilege of serving with people from over 25 different Christian churches under the banner of providing services to child victims of sex trafficking through a Portland ministry called, “Door To Grace” (www.doortograce.org).
We are Quaker, Baptist, Four Square, Presbyterian, Non-denominational, and more, but those differences are left aside as we come alongside young teens in their struggle to be freed of this kind of bondage. Now, I’m not saying that we don’t notice our differences because in community there are always opportunities to “bump up against each other.” However, the threads of justice and compassion that hold us together override the fractures that often prevent collaborative ministry. We are attempting to live out our faith by providing safe homes and restorative care to these precious children.
