NWYM VISIONING PROCESS
2017-18
The Administrative Council of NWYM has approved moving forward with planning and visioning for the future of NWYM, as well as incorporating the superintendent search in the process. We have designed the process so there are several opportunities at various levels for individuals and churches remaining in NWYM to be involved.
NWYM has hired the consulting firm Genysys of Yorba Linda, CA to guide the vision process. One of the consultants working with NWYM is a member of Yorba Linda Friends. Genysys was recently involved in the restructure/visioning for Evangelical Friends Mission. The timeline begins immediately.
During the next two months face-to-face meetings led by the clerks and including an area task force member will be held in each of the eight areas of NWYM as follows:
So Idaho Area @ Meridian Friends on October 7, 3 pm
Inland Area @ River of Life Friends on October 21, 11 am
So Oregon @ Medford Friends on November 1, 7 pm
SW Washington @ Cherry Grove Friends on November 30, 7 pm
Salem Area @ Rosedale Friends on December 1, 7 pm
Newberg Area @ Newberg Friends on December 2, 10 am
Portland Area @ Clackamas Park Friends on December 2, 3:30 pm
Puget Sound @ Olympic View on December 3, 1 pm
Simultaneous with the face-to-face gatherings, Genysys will distribute an electronic Organizational Questionnaire broadly throughout the yearly meeting. They are looking for written responses from all yearly meeting and local church leadership, pastors, and as many attendees in the local churches as possible. We are hoping to get out as many as 2000 emails and responses to their assessment questionnaire. ** [The e-mail addresses submitted for this will only be used in this visioning process and then removed from our lists unless written permission is granted by the individual for us to keep for future Yearly Meeting communications.]
It is projected that during December, Genysys will evaluate the notes taken during the visioning groups at yearly meeting sessions, notes from the Area face-to-face meetings and responses to the questionnaire and present a report in early January, 2018.
With the report in hand, in January Genysys will lead a Vision Day. Participants that day would likely be the Task Force, yearly meeting board clerks, other interested board members, current pastors, and pastoral staff. They envision 100-150 attenders on this date.
Following Vision Day, Genysys will work with the Task Force in a Planning Day. This day will provide detail to the priorities gleaned from the Vision Day. It is expected that priorities arising from NWYM and budget projections will define staffing needs and job descriptions. After the Planning Day, the Task Force will move forward with more detail and begin the search for a General Superintendent with a plan to submit a recommendation during yearly meetings sessions in July 2018.
This is a projected course of action and we are expecting some flexibility in the timeline and scheduling. Our prayer is to guide a process that moves NWYM into the future with hope and courage for the outreach God is calling us to proclaim!
Members of the Task Force are:
Brad Holton, presiding clerk and Debbie Harrison, assistant presiding clerk
Phil McLain, Board of Elders clerk and Ron Mulkey, Board of Global Outreach clerk
So Idaho – Lee Belt
Inland – Gwen Gerger
SW Washington – Trey Doty
Puget Sound – Jenny Willoughby
