This year has been full of blessings and challenges. Our work in PRODOLA took us to Lima, Peru to engage with the new 2012 cohort group of doctoral students. We also traveled twice to meet with the Academic Council, while doing the rest of our work online from home. That included online teaching and course design, SKYPE team meetings, and lots of email contact with faculty and students. Being part of a semi-virtual school continues to be a challenge for us face-to-face communicators.

We also traveled twice to Bolivia where, among other activities, we facilitated a consultation on “The Gospel and Culture,” oversaw the publication of a collection of Latin American Friends’ narrative writing, interacted with Friends leaders, and fellowshipped with many former co-workers, students, disciples, and neighbors–all dear friends. As if this were not enough, a highlight of the year was our trip to Russia where we learned first-hand from the Maurers about that work. God is good.

Prayer request: For wisdom as we seek God´s will for our future ministry.

Our ministry of love and prayer in Russia is microscopic in comparison to the scale of this enormous country. We know we are to persist in season and out of season. But we need your prayers.
Whenever you hear about Russia, please remember us. Please pray
— that we will meet the people who particular need to hear what we have to say
— that we will hear their hearts, too
— that we will know the right words to heal and encourage
— that we will stay in God’s will at all times.
Of all the moments we’re grateful for in this past year, one of the high points was our visitors from Northwest Yearly Meeting–Hal and Nancy Thomas and Linda Grimms. Your care keeps us spiritually afloat.
You can keep up with us through Facebook; you can see what our home and town look like here: … But our top priority is prayer. Thank you!

IMG_1135Bethlehem is a real place. There are stores, churches, mosques, busses, schools, bookshops, houses…and people. Many of the people carry foreign passports and arrive in tour busses to spend time in the Church of the Nativity and the shops selling nativity sets—and other beautifully crafted olive wood figures. Think about this when you sing about Bethlehem this Christmas season. Bethlehem … [Read more…]
