Hello Family and Friends!
Today we gan our small vacation from Moyallon, and journeyed up to the Whitepark Bay Youth Hostel on the northern coast with Carolyn McMullen.
On our drive up we made a couple touristy stops. On our first stop we finally got to see a castle! We went to the Carrickfergus Castle, which was preserved and set up to look like it did hundreds of years ago. Upon entering we were given these childrens pamphlets of multiple choice questions about the castle. If we didn’t answer all the questions correctly before we left, then we would be stuck in the dungeon forever! Thankfully we got all the answers and no one had to stay behind. The sky was also clear enough that from the castle walls we could just barely see Scottland off on the horizon.
After we saw the castle Carolyn picked us up and we headed to Ballycastle (a small coastal town) where we found a peaceful park nect to the water and we had lunch. A group of us searched the small shops for iced coffee, which we’ve discovered is incredibly hard to find here in Ireland. And even when we do find it, it’s not like our delicious sugar-coffee that we get back in the states.
From Ballycastle we drove up to the Youth Hostel. We have an incredible view of the coast throughout the drive as well! Upon arriving at the Hostel, we could see a pathway through some cattle pastures that led down to the sandy beach, with lots of people pickniking and swimming. Again, it was clear enough that we could see Scottland from our rooms in the Hostel!
After getting settled into our rooms we took a drive to Giant’s Causeway. Giant’s Causeway is a spactacular rock formation on the coast, and we spent about 45 minutes there while we watched the sun begin to set. It was a very beautiful evening! After that Carolyn took us out and bought us all ice cream. We are definitely being spoiled while we’re here!
We’re halfway through our trip, and our fun is still going strong!
