Congregational Care

The NWYM Board of Congregational Care is comprised of Friends with gifts, passion and expertise in helping our churches be healthy, faithful and effective communities of worship, service and fellowship. Specific duties include:

  • Encourage our faith communities to actively listen to God through discernment training and by providing resources for Quaker business meetings
  • Identify specific needs within the variety of NWYM faith communities
  • Develop and promote practices of personal and corporate stewardship
  • Develop and encourage various models of worship
  • Encourage healthy, loving, and spiritually-enriching relationships within the Christian community
    • Provide resources/training for conflict resolution
    • Promote training and resources for healthy marriages and family concerns
    • Information resources for available Christian counselors
    • Suggestions/resources for meeting needs within the local group—(i.e. sharing lists, Mennonite Mutual Aid resources)
    • Promote activities that build community and unity
    • Promote small groups as both an outreach and nurturing tool for the local faith communities
    • Encourage mentoring, spiritual friendships and other intentional, spiritual relationships
  • Develop a Traveling Minister’s resource list: i.e. workshops, speakers, training for a variety of topics related to congregational life
  • Promote and encourage Friends membership through the development of new and creative resources—i.e. written, web-based, DVD
  • Develop and promote resources/models for assisting churches with refocusing, re-visioning, renewal—i.e. Natural Church Development, strategic planning and visioning
  • Assist faith communities in providing care and compassion to seniors and people with disabilities
  • Promote and encourage the development and use of fine arts throughout NWYM
  • Promote and oversee the Share Call fund for NWYM churches
  • Promote the ministry of Friends Church Extension Fund (formerly Friends Church Extension Foundation) for churches interested in facility expansion, refurbishment or new building plans
  • Research useful information for local churches as they address the needs of their facilities—i.e. sound equipment, building care, computer programs, etc
  • Develop creative ways to encourage interaction among attendees at the annual NWYM sessions
