To Friends Everywhere,
This year the high school youth of the Northwest Yearly Meeting (NWYM) have been challenged and encouraged by the theme: Go Light Your World. Through evening speakers, small group discussions and serve projects, we have felt the challenge and call to be light and salt in our world. Our evening service speakers encouraged us to live a God-centered life in service to others. During small-group times throughout the week, we discerned ways we might shine light in and through our church youth programs. Tuesday’s service projects (washing cars and helping in a community garden) gave us the opportunity to experience the joy that comes with simply serving others without expecting to receive something in return.
Our week was full of inspiring sermons. Monday night we were challenged by Jules Glanzer to abandon a hypocritical version of a “Christian life” and be a light to those around us. On Tuesday, David——— Niyonzima told us about his experiences in Africa and assured us of the difference that just one person could make in a world of darkness. We were also blessed this week to hear from our missionaries as well as our YCEW team who traveled to Russia this summer. Several of the youth were blessed as well to have the opportunity to lead the entire Yearly Meeting in worship Wednesday night.
This week NWYM has been an enjoyable, challenging, and enlightening time for our youth. During all activities, whether work, play, or fellowship, the youth of NWYM have learned to worship God in all that we do. As we have learned to be a light in our community and world, we challenge you to do the same. May God bless all of you.
In Christ,
Gabby VanNoord
