this is a powerful testimony. i was about to buy the book and looked to find a review and found this testimony. I am struggling with my addiction to my every night 2-3 glasses of wine...and yet every day i long for Jesus! I worship God throughout my days and then evening hits and i am overcome by this temptation....I want nothing more than to be completely satisified by God alone and not feel like i need anything else!

Two recent books come to mind, each one of them somewhat related to this article in different ways. Darwin's Sacred Cause by Adrian Desmond and James Moore chronicles the interaction of Darwin's family concern for the abolition of the slave trade and his research and writing on evolution and the origns of human beings. The Chocolate Wars, by one of the Cadburys, is a retelling of the development of the chocolate industry, mostly in England, which was led by Quaker families. What is emphasized is the very different business plans of the founders of the chocolate industry which focused on the well being of the employees more than amassing great profits. Both books are somewhat wordy and tedious at times, but still well worth ploughing through.

I think you really hit the nail on the head where you said, Grace isn’t tolerant of sin, it’s ministering to the repentant heart. Grace doesn’t excuse the flesh, but cultivates the spirit. Very well put and a very good reminder. Thanks for the post!-Sharayah

I have never heard Quakers raised into faith by their families. I personally made a choice, a public choice, a personal decision in a NWYM church. In this Quaker church, there was an altar up front where I went to pray, and be prayed over, and made my decision to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. It was all part of the Sunday service, while a Quaker missionary woman was preaching. It is one of my favorite stories to tell. It was quite a day.......

Alice--I'm so glad you got through to let us know what the "excitement" was. We are praying, and so happy to hear the news. Thea Cowley (Elenita's daughter)

AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THIS SPANISH SITE, AND IN ACCESSSING MY OWN EMAIL, BUT JUST WANT TO SAY GOD IS BLESSING OUR TRIP. IT WAS BY HIS PROVIDENCE THAT KEN COMFORT WAS WITH US YESTERDAY AS WE TRAVELED BY BUS FROM ILLAVE TO LA PAZ AND ENCOUNTERED A PROTEST THAT WAS STOPPING TRAFFIC IN BOTH DIRECTIONS JUST BEFORE WE GOT TO COPACABANA. KEN´S INTERVENTION, SAYING HE WAS A CHILD IN AMACARI, SON OF GENE AND BETTY COMFORT, GAVE HIM AN IN AS SEVERAL REMEMBERED GENE AND BETTY. LOTS OF DETAILS THAT I CAN´T GO INTO HERE, BUT JUST TO KNOW THAT YOUR PRAYERS ARE IMPORTANT. AND AFTER ABOUT 4 HOURS OF NEGOTIATION, KEN WAS ABLE TO PERSUADE THE PEOPLE TO OPEN THE BLOCADE FOR A SHORT WHILE TO LET THE TRAFFIC THROUGH IN BOTH DIRECTIONS THEN THEY WERE GOING TO CLOSE IT AGAIN. KNOW THAT WE ARE HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME WITH THE BRETHREN HERE. WORDS CAN´T EXPRESS THE JOY IT HAS BEEN TO SEE THE ADVANCEMENT AND MATURITY OF THE PERUVIAN FRIENDS CHURCH. KEEP PRAYING.
