Entiat Friends’ theme for this year’s 6th annual VBS was Avalanche Ranch. Children arrived for dinner, followed by a rootin‘ tootin‘ foot-stompin‘ good time of welcome and singing after which they rotated through four sessions of Cowpoke Crafts, Wild West Theatre (Bible Memory), Wild Bible Adventures, and Horseplay Games. More than a decade had passed since Entiat had a VBS program when they had their first one six years ago. It has been energizing, exciting, and challenging. When measuring whether or not their VBS program is successful, they have found God working specifically in two ways: 1) Children are hearing the good news of Jesus Christ in a clear, intentional, and simple way, and the already believing child has opportunity for further understanding; and 2) It is a great opportunity for ministry to the greater community of Entiat that truly involves close to 100 percent of the congregation. Almost everyone has a “stake” in VBS from providing hot dogs for dinner to putting together craft projects or teaching and leading groups. One of the greatest blessings Entiat recognizes of VBS is the camaraderie and relationship that is built through working together for a common purpose.
Rose Valley Friends Church held vacation Bible school themed “Pandamania,” where children discovered the power of God’s love as they traveled through bamboo, bridges, and pandas. One hundred eighty children attended the week-long program, with the help of 40 leaders. Rose Valley even had 20 of the children ask Jesus into their hearts on Salvation Day. They praise God for his teachings, fun activities, and good weather.
Entiat and Rose Valley are just two examples of what can happen when we come together with a common shared interest as the body of Christ. Lives are changed, communities are affected, and God is glorified.
