This family-friendly event will include a salmon buffet lunch, camp museum, cotton candy, tide pool touch tank, face painting, Velcro wall, croquet, camp tours, and more, including a chance to walk the path of the new “parkway” perimeter road slated for construction this summer. Progress updates on the camp’s Master Plan will be shared during a dessert presentation. The complimentary Party by the Parkway benefit event will run from 11a.m. to 4p.m. on Saturday. Families desiring a more extended time at the beach are invited to arrive on Friday, for a modest fee and as space allows.

  • The Board of Elders has prepared a handbook for local church elders. The handbook, along with a series of resources to assist local elders, is being added to as materials develop.
  • The Board of Christian Education is sponsoring a complimentary dinner, providing encouragement and resources for leaders of Christian Education at local churches. This dinner will take place Tuesday, July 27, at Yearly Meeting Sessions. To reserve your spot, contact board clerk Laurie Conant.
  • On June 12, Donald and Alfreda Brown, pastoring at Caldwell Friends, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. And on June 30, they will have completed their 40th consecutive year as full-time Friends pastors.
  • The Nominating Committee meets May 14 to consider nominations to our ministry boards. There are openings for people with passion and skill around each board’s ministry plan.  Read about these plans, or nominate yourself or someone else. Contact NC clerk, Earl Tycksen with any questions.
  • Yearly Meeting Sunday is May 23. Each church or meeting in NWYM will celebrate our connection and shared ministries. Look for a bulletin insert that emphasizes our shared “core values.”
  • Pastoral transitions this year include:
    • Luke Ankeny, currently serving at Entiat Friends in Washington. Luke and his family are moving to New York State to assist in a church plant.
    • Doug Balzer, will wrap up his ministry at Vancouver First Friends Church.
    • Church openings include:
      • Pastoral ~ Olympic View (Tacoma, WA), Entiat (WA), Vancouver (WA), Rose Valley (Kelso, WA).
      • Youth Pastor ~ West Hills (Portland, OR) and 2nd Street (Newberg, OR).
  • Twice a year we issue Share Calls, inviting NWYM members to contribute to the building project of one of our churches. Last year we supported River of Life in Post Falls, Idaho, as they put a new roof on their building. Entiat Friends, in central Washington, also benefitted from a Share Call, giving them the opportunity replace their furnace and provide a more welcoming atmosphere as they reach out into their community.
This month we feature City’s Edge Friends Church in Beaverton, Oregon. Established in 1997, City’s Edge just moved into their own building and hope to finish up some remodeling projects to make it a complete and welcoming space. See the insert in this newsletter for more information and donation options.
  • Know of a young adult who might benefit from leadership mentoring and ministry planning? The Young Adult Leadership Team (YAFLDT) is accepting applications through May.
