Do you have a vision for a new ministry?
Leading a startup ministry (church, nonprofit, or parachurch organization) is a venture that engages our faith, challenges our skills, and releases our creativity. In this two day intensive we will explore how to move an idea from dream to reality. You will gain a deeper understanding of the necessary and integrated components involved in the start up of any ministry including: biblical mission,
communication, fund development, evaluation, personal leadership, and identifying your ministry context. Whether you are considering the start of a new ministry or have already begun, you will benefit from this two day course.

Updated Faith and Practice

September 15, 2009

The newly updated Faith and Practice, approved at Yearly Meeting sessions in July of 2009, is now available. It is a pdf document with clickable links in the index and cross-references for easy maneuverability.

You can view it or download a copy at the Governance page of our website. If you would like a  hard copy and are unable to print your own, please contact the Yearly Meeting Office (503/538-9419).

These revisions reflect our new structure (the eight new ministry boards focused on holistic ministry; a streamlined and less hierarchical format; a revitalization of our Areas; and the inclusion of our Vision Statement and Core Values).

This is the agreed-upon covenant for the churches and individuals of Northwest Yearly Meeting.

Immigration Workshop

Jenn and JoelAt Yearly Meeting sessions 2009, Jen and Joel Perez (Newberg Friends) led a workshop introducing the immigration subject, highlighting some myths surrounding this controversial topic, and providing resources for further education.  They shared their own journeys as they have begun outreach to immigrants and provided some ideas for involvement.

.Men’s Workshop: Finding Balance in Our Lives

The Board of Christian Education and Discipleship is making available to our churches a workshop on men and spirituality.

This workshop presents an opportunity for men to make positive changes in their lives. The format is informal and offers time to examine our lives in a safe and helpful environment.

  • We take a hard look at men in the Bible who needed to find balance in their lives such as Adam, Noah, Sampson, David, and Peter, to name a few.
  • We learn the greatness and value of God’s love for us.
  • We search our lives and hearts to see where we need God’s love and light to shine.
  • Finally, we have an opportunity to make choices to change.

The workshop runs about 3 hours in three parts: 1. God’s love, 2. My need, and 3. Plan for change.  Lots of flexibility for morning, afternoon, or evening, with meals interspersed as the church wants.

This all happens in an atmosphere of active learning, fun, laughter, as well as serious dialogue and prayer. Join us in this adventure of faith-building, self-examination, and decision-making!

To learn more about this workshop, or schedule it for your church or Area, contact Jim Teeters or Dave Powell.
